Thyroid is a endocrine gland that regulates metabolism and is located in the neck. Thyroid ultrasound is a painless, fast exam that uses sound waves to create pictures of the thyroid gland that is located in the neck. You will be asked to lie on the exam table with your neck hyper-extended. The ultrasound technologist will spread a small amount of gel over your neck and sweep a small hand held device called a transducer over the area of interest. There is no radiation involved and no preparation is required.
