    Musculoskeletal

The musculoskeletal system (also known as the locomotor system) is an organ system that gives mammal the ability to physically move using the muscles and skeletal system.[1]

The human musculoskeletal system consists of the human skeleton, made by bones attached to other bones with joints, and skeletal muscle attached to the skeleton by tendons. [1]

Musculoskeletal ultrasound is fast becoming an examination of choice for evaluation of sports injuries that involves the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and soft tissue throughout the body. It helps in the detection and management of:

  • Tears in tendons of the joints like the rotator cuff tear in the shoulder or in the Achilles tendon in the ankle
  • Any disorders of the muscles, such as tears and abnormalities like soft-tissue masses
  • Collection of fluid or bleeding within the muscles, bursae (space between a tendon and a bone) and joints.
